An
Employer Group Waiver Plan also call a Series 800 Plan
is a
CMS
approved plan designed specifically for employers and unions.
The employer/union (sponsor) contracts directly
with a PDP approved for Series 800, EGWP or CMS
. These plans are dependent upon the sponsor meeting and
complying with certain requirements.
There are many
advantages to contracting with a PDP (prescription
drug plan) instead of contracting directly with
CMS
and having to outsource many of the administrative
services.

EGWP's may be fully or partially
insured, allowing the plan sponsor to shift the risk to

taking the RDS subsidy, that must be entered on the
balance sheets as revenue in the year that it is
